Unlike many other dog breeds, the tail is never curled for this dog. The coat is very easy to care for and is of medium length. The color of the coat can be lemon, tan and black, white and orange, white and red, white and lemon, red tick and blue tick. When the beagles are on hunt, they make a peculiar howling sound.
This gentle and loving dog is sociable and mingles excellently with children. They are not very aggressive with other canine pets but the same may not be true with non-canine pets unless they are trained. Beagles require firm training from their owner. They are quite sensitive to scents and they tend to follow the odor until they find the source. If you are going to leave you pet loose, make sure it is a safe area.
Beagles are generally prone to back, eye and heart problems if good care is not taken during their growth. They love to be outdoors and hence if you are living in an apartment, you may have to take them for regular walks. They have good stamina and are highly energetic. The average life expectancy is between 12 and 15 years.
